FESTIVAL BACKGROUND!!
High Tide Festival is a cultural and arts event
that celebrates our environment and diverse community

Torquay High Tide Festival is a community festival.
A theme is selected each year for the festival and this provides direction and inspiration for events and planning of the festival.

It is supported by the Surf Coast Shire, Torquay Foreshore and many community groups and individuals.  The festival is held in the streets, public spaces and some indoor venues throughout Torquay.
It occurs over a weekend in early December with lead up activities in the preceding weeks.

The festival is held to celebrate the local culture and residents’ commitment to living in this beautiful coastal area.  It is held in December prior to the tourist season onslaught, enabling the focus to remain local and to allow maximum participation before people are tied up with the hectic season but encouraging those visiting the area to participate.

As the festival is held in December, the planning of the Festival is ongoing, however, initial programs and ideas have been determined through the success, feedback and debrief of the 2005 festival.

The aims of the festival are:
To celebrate the uniqueness of Torquay, local culture and cultural heritage of the area.

The festival was recognised in a VicHealth “Health Promotion through Participation” Award in 2001 and commended in 2002.
There are many opportunities for individuals and groups to be involved
Members of Community groups, societies and individuals are welcome and highly encouraged to take part!
